Using Jack Stands Correctly

Most of us may have been in a situation where we need to lift our car and do some repairs under it. You need to be very careful while doing this because you will be below a heavy vehicle that could slip down if not secured properly. So to do these kinds of jobs the most important thing that is required is the jack stands that will carry the entire weight of your vehicle and also keep you safe under.

Use a proper jack stand and be careful not to use the jacks alone because most often they fail and cause accidents. If you have ever seen such an accident happen then you will know the severity and the importance of using the jack stands while you work under your vehicle. We all know that prevention is always better than cure! So don’t forget to take the jack stands if you need to work under a car. Normal jacks cannot support your vehicle for a long period of time.

Here are a few points to use the jack stands properly:

1. First use the normal jack to lift the car. When it’s up, go on to the next step.

2. Take a look below the car to know the place of jack stands. Check it out using a user manual also. If not clear, then begin at the axles.

3. Take one jack stand and place it below the jack point properly aligning it.

4. Now with the help of the one jack stand bring down the vehicle slowly to know if stands are placed properly or not.

5. Now the stands will be supporting the whole weight of the car. Then now remove the normal jack and go to the front part of the auto and keep your hands above the hood. Push it gently laterally to ensure that it is not rocking.

When these are done, be sure that the automobile is supported properly and that you can work below it without any fear of it slipping. When you finish your work, remove the stands and the jack. Hope it was an easy job, right? Now go on and do your repairs yourself!
